Muse Release Down-To-Earth New Song & Music Video

Muse have stripped down the sound to something a little more ‘human’ which is fitting for their newest release, appropriately named, ‘Something Human’.

The song tells a story of a man journeying home, seeking some kind of human contact that he left there when he went away on his travels. The opening line hits us with ‘My circuits  have blown’ which immediately lets us know that the band are maybe feeling burned out, tired, and they’re dissociating with society. Matt Bellamy sings in a yearning way, accompanied by an acoustic guitar and a warm sounding drum that makes the track feel personal and down-to-earth, but there are atmospheric tones and embellishments added into the track giving it the signature Muse feeling.

The music video has a sense of nostalgia mixed with the futuristic high-speed aesthetic that is also often associated with Muse. It tells the story of a man who uses a virtual reality headset and lives through a police chase in the desert to return a VHS tape to an old video store, then turns into a werewolf. It’s an exciting metaphor for life on tour, as Matt revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone: ‘Life on the road can bring out your inner beast, this song and video is about taming that beast, desiring a return to something human.’

Something Human will be featured on Muse’s upcoming and as of today untitled album which will be released later this year.
