When some people think of All Time Low, they think of four silly guys that put a smile on their face with either their funny jokes, or just simply their fun music. But when some people think of them, they also think of their meaningful lyrics.
When it comes to their meaningful lyrics, three songs in particular come to mind for me personally. Those three songs are "Therapy," "Kids In The Dark," and "Missing You." Each of these songs have a powerful meaning to them and each of these songs tell a story describing how life isn't always easy, but in the end, it's all going to be okay.
Love yourself so no one has to. - "Therapy"
I heard that you've been / Self-medicating in the quiet of your room / Your sweet suburban tomb / And if you need a friend / I'll help you stitch up your wounds. - "Missing You"
Beautiful scars on critical veins. - "Kids In The Dark"
Now don't lose your fight, kid / It only takes a little push to pull on through. - "Missing You"
In a city of fools / I was careful and cool / But they tore me apart like a hurricane. - "Therapy"
But if you need a friend, just say the word. - "Missing You"
I'm a walking travesty / But I'm smiling at everything. - "Therapy"
Come together / State of the art / We'll never surrender / The kids in the dark. - "Kids In The Dark"
Paint the walls black and scream, "Fuck the world 'cause it's my life / I'm gonna take it back" - "Missing You"
Strife Magazine took the time to speak to some All Time Low fans from around the world,
and this is what they had to say.
Oriana | 14 | Slovenia - "I love All Time Low cause they make me feel like I can do anything and be anyone I want. The way they express themselves through music is so amazing to me I always have to stop and really listen to what the song is about. They make me happy when I'm sad and for that I will always be thankful to all four of them."
Leticia | 16 | Chicago, Illinois - "I love All Time Low because they're not afraid to show their weird side. They love all of their fans and they connect with us through their amazing music. They're a family to each other and each others' families. They give me and others hope in hard times and I love them so much for them."
James | 16 | Portugal - "I love All Time Low for they have helped me through so much, not only through depression but through coming out as a trans male. Their music is so inspirational that I can have a little hope on my future and transition."
"Alex always gives me a reason to smile when things get ugly. When I'm going through misgendering, Zack makes feel a little body positive when I'm feeling dysphoric. Rian, well just look at his face! And Jack makes me laugh. They are so talented, there are no words to describe how grateful I am for these 4 boys. I just know that one day when I meet them I'll be able to show my gratitude."
Casey Farley | 21 | Tontogany, Ohio - "All Time Low has been in my life for about nine years and they have been one of my favorite bands ever since I heard them. Nothing Personal absolutely changed my life. I loved their albums released before Nothing Personal, but I never connected with a song like I did with "Therapy." I think I was about to start my freshman year of High School when Nothing Personal came out."
"I'm sure we all know how rough High School is for most people, especially Freshmen. "Therapy" will forever be my favorite song by All Time Low. I love how they write music that relates to every mood you experience in your life. I've cried to All Time Low, I've been angry, I've danced around my room at 2 AM, I've experienced drunken nights to All Time Low,. You name it, I've done it. They've always been there, and even if they aren't aware that they have helped me get through some rough times, they've always been there for me and for that, I'm eternally grateful."
Jack | 19 | Wisconsin - "All Time Low was one of the first bands I listened to on my own free will. It wasn't what everyone around me was listening to, and nobody forced me to like them. I have such an authentic appreciation for the members, their attitudes, their messages to their fans, and of course, their music. They've been one of my favorite bands for the past seven years and I know they're going to stay that way."
Veera | 15 | Finland - "I love All time low because they make me feel like I'm worth something and they have helped me with my depression and self harm more than anyone ever. I love them and they mean the world to me.
Simone | 17 | Lithuania - "The reason I love All Time Low is mostly because I can escape from my thoughts and problems by listening to their songs, their lyrics usually describe how I feel so well that I don't feel like an outsider anymore. They also have a unique sound which I appreciate a lot. Their love and dedication for their fans is amazing as well."
Valerie | 13 | California - "I love All Time Low because their music is inspiring in many ways and helps me to push through anything that might be in my way. The band brings me so much joy."
Kaylee | 17 years | Netherlands - "The reason why I love All Time low is because every time I listen to their music, it gives me hope. They give me the hope that everything is going to be okay."
Mag | 15 | Warsaw - "I discovered All Time Low not by their music, but actually by Full Frontal. I was going trough some podcasts when I saw naked guys stepping out of the shower on the cover of their show and I was like "what is this?!" It actually turned out to be two guys, genuinely funny and interesting, and so I looked them up. They turned out to be in a band called All Time Low. I was going trough some sort of phase in my life and the lyrics in their latest album, Future Hearts, really hit me."
"It was the first band that made me feel safe and got me to acknowledge that there are people that actually have similar feelings to mine. That's why I fell in love with All Time Low, they helped me become who I am today, made me a stronger individual, and inspired me to create and explore new genres in music."
"Although I love All Time Low for their music, I love them even more for how funny they were in Full Frontal, which I played non-stop when I was sad or just felt like it. Another reason, completely separate though, is one exact song, "Therapy." I believe it was on a playlist called "Sad Songs" or something like that and it made me get into the band's other stuff, then the latest album. But most important of all, the song fueled my love for guitar by the intro riff. I started playing guitar again and I couldn't be happier about it."
"I also love these dorks for sharing their lives with us. For example, Jack's videos of him warming up on Snapchat totally make my day. That's why I love All Time Low. I'm proud to say that they're a part of my life, and one of the best parts."
Mo | 15 | United States - "They got me into music and probably was the first and to give me an eye opening experience to music. Great music, lovely jokes."
Isabelle | 15 | South East London - "I love them because they are the nicest most genuine people. Their music has inspired me to keep going and I plan to get a tattoo related to their music one day. Their songs helped me more than I could ever even try to put into words. Their lyrics resonate with me and I also love the tunes they put with them. I have posters all over my walls, t shirts and everything. I try to incorporate a lot of things I do around them! They are a constant reminder that it's worth it to not lose my fight."
Madeleine Katy | 19 | Cornwall, United Kingdom - "I've known about All Time Low for nearly five years. I found out about them when I was 14 and now I'm 19. They've pretty much been my favourite band from my teen life to me becoming more of an adult, so I really think they've sort of helped to shape a big part of who I am."
"They always manage to help me take my mind off of any negative thoughts and focus on positive things in my life, they've changed my outlook on life, helped me through difficult times and make me feel strong and positive even if they don't realize it."
"Their music can make me smile no matter what mood I'm in and I have so many memories connected to each song. Whenever I've been sad, I've listened to their songs and cried til I ran out of tears. Whenever I've been happy, I've danced around and yelled the lyrics full volume. I've said it so many times, but there is an All Time Low song for every mood! They have such incredible stage presence seeing them live was hands down the best experience of my life so far. I wouldn't be who I am today without them and I'm so happy and thankful that they're in my life."
''Alex in particular has always helped me so much. His endless creativity with lyrics and music always leaves me speechless. He inspires me every single day to become better and to work at what I want and he never fails to make me smile just by being himself. I can genuinely see how much he appreciates all of us, and it makes me so happy."
