After talking to Twenty One Pilots fans for Part 1 of Strife Magazine's "Escape Through Music," we took the time to speak to some more Twenty One Pilot fans from around the world. And here's what they had to say.
Kelsee Trasser | 18 | Ohio – “I love Twenty One Pilots so much. Tyler and Josh have created something that I've never been able to express myself. They've shown me that I have a purpose and that I need to find my self-worth. The both of them put their heart and soul into their music and their shows, which has shown me that if they can stay strong, so can I.”
“More specifically, Tyler's voice and words gives me hope. I've spent so many days listening to them nonstop and truly feeling the words that's he's spilled out onto the record and I see the world in such a different way because of it. The band has changed my life and I can't find the right words to say how incredible they are and how much they mean to me. Without them I don't know where I'd be or what state of mind I’d be in every day. Twenty One Pilots has become a part of who I am, and I wouldn't change for anything in the world.”
Atticus | 13 | England – “Twenty One Pilots to me is more than just a band. They're two insanely talented people who created something that offers their fans/listeners an escape through their music and a sense of, yes, you will be okay and you can do this. They talk about fear and to me that makes me realize that I'm not the only one who's like this, and if they can fight through it and win, then why can't I?”
“On my worst days I can just listen to them and instantly feel better because Josh and Tyler as people are amazing and funny but also their lyrics and music can just describe what I'm feeling. Josh and Tyler are so sweet and caring towards us (The Skeleton Clique) and think of us more than just fans. We're all a family together and they make us all feel loved. They preach that it's worth staying alive, and that's why I love them.”
Margaux | 16 | France - “I really love Twenty One Pilots. They are amazing on many levels. First of all, they are great musicians. They can play different instruments, and I really like the fact that they add ukulele in some of their songs. It's new and it is different from all of the other things that we are used to listen to. Then, their lyrics are really meaningful. Tyler is an amazing writer, and all of their songs tell a story. They are also great human-being and are really encouraging for their fans. They make us feel better about ourselves. They are here for us without being here."
"Tyler went through a lot of things and wrote about it. Now we can relate to his lyrics, see that we are not alone, and see that it can get better. I also love the fact that one of their mottos is "stay alive," and that they made a song out of it (“Truce”). It means a lot to fans. It really makes us want to stay alive. I really love these two men and I hope to meet them one day to thank them.”
Morgan | 15 | Tennessee - “I love Twenty One Pilots because even with sad/depressing lyrics, they can bring in hundreds of thousands of fans. Their music itself sounds so uplifting and happy, and you can dance to it and be sad, but maybe by the end you're not as sad.”
Rian Gabriel | 16 | United States - “I love Twenty One Pilots because let me know that I'm never alone. That we are all going through the same thing. With love and support we will always be able to get out of our rough patches. They're always making sure to remind us that.”
Elizabeth Haase | 14 | Ohio - “I love the band because of how musically different they are compared to other bands. Their music expresses a story that it seems Tyler and Josh have lived through to get where they are now.”
Josh Corzatt | 16 | United States - “I love Twenty One Pilots because they are uniquely genius in a music society that is all too common. I love them because they have a genuine passion not only for what they do, but also who they do it for. They inspire me to create, to find my purpose, and to be the best I can be for Christ. Their friendship is amazing and they are overall an amazing example for people through their actions, humility, care, and strength. I love Twenty One Pilots because they inspire me and give me a group to love and be a part of (the Clique.)”
Aimee V. | 17 | México - “I’ve been part of The Clique for a few years now, and let me tell you, Twenty One Pilots are one of the few musicians that actually give me chills. Their music treats issues that people go through every day, but they are scared or ashamed to talk about. They give hope. Their music has a message that cause a positive result in everyone that really listens to what they are trying to say. They tell us that we are not alone, that they know how it feels, to be comfortable in our own skin, and that is one of the best feelings in the world.”
“I love Twenty One Pilots, not only for their lyrics, but for the art they make. The drums, the piano, the ukulele, and etc., all create a masterpiece to the ear. I admire them because they are humble and real, with their feet on the ground, and they never forget where they came from. They stay real to who they are, and that inspire us to be real to ourselves.”
Cadence | 11 | United States - “I love Twenty One Pilots because they are so inspiring and so creative. I love singing to their songs in the car and then suddenly screaming and having everyone stare at me like I'm crazy. And I like that their music relates so much with the different emotions like fear and love. They inspired me to start my own band and cover their songs. And most of all, I love Twenty One Pilots because of their logo. I love how the red represents Tyler, the blue represents Joshua, and the black represents us (the fans.) I'm Twenty One Pilots and so are you. I also love how they trust us with all of their art work.”
Sofie Petrov | 15 | The Netherlands - “I love Tyler and Josh because they're different and special in their own way. They don't feel like celebrities to me, I feel like they're my friends. It's hard to explain because I see them as people I love even though I'm pretty sure that they have no idea who I am. They're special because of the people who are supporting them. All those people together creates a wonderful society in which people help each other in times of need. Josh and Tyler have achieved so much in the last few years, it's almost unimaginable. They're great, they're special and they're a band that has actually impacted my life in such an amazing way.”
Fionna | 19 | United States. – “Before I found Twenty One Pilots I had absolutely no coping skills. I couldn't bring myself to tell anyone but my psychiatrist I was depressed and I didn't know how to handle knowing the fact that I was different. I couldn't handle my thoughts, I couldn't handle stress, I couldn't sleep and I was scared of myself. I love Twenty One Pilots because their music helped me breathe. Hearing Tyler's lyrics made me realize I wasn't alone. He talks about things everyone is afraid to discuss and admit. Twenty One Pilots saved me from myself. They made me feel normal. Twenty One Pilots is my medication.”
Jolee | 16 | North Carolina - “I love Twenty One Pilots because their music helps me to calm down and get through tough times. Their songs have also brought me closer to many of my friends, too, which is cool. They have taught me to never lose faith and to never give up. Their music is awesome and the fact that it can help and inspire so many people is amazing. I also really respect Tyler and Josh because they stay true to their fans and their beliefs and work extremely hard to be good role models and put on great shows. They are real and that's what everyone needs more of nowadays; genuine people with real talent and passion for what they do.”
Corinne Cutlip | 17 | Chicago -“Twenty One Pilots mean so much to me because they help me feel like I am not alone in this battle and that I can get through this. They have helped me get through a lot in my life already and as they say "stay alive" helps me stay alive.”
Macey | 14 | United States - “The reason I love Twenty One Pilots is because of how real they are in their lyrics and how connected they are to their fans (The Skeleton Clique,) unlike so many artists these days. Also, I connect so much with their lyrics, especially spiritually. And finally, I love them because they use their talents for so much more than making money. They use their talents to help people and themselves.”
Madison | 16 | United States - “I love Twenty One Pilots because each of their songs can mean something completely different to different people, or even the same person. They remind us it’s okay to be sad and struggle. They teach us it's not weird or crazy feel what we're feeling and to write it down to get it out. They teach us to take the hurt and the pain we are feeling and use it to create something. They teach us to use music to cope and work on being okay. They remind us we aren't alone in this fight.”
Joska | 14 | The Netherlands - “I love Twenty One Pilots, because I've had a tough time in my life, and they helped me very much with their music.”
Louise Wright | 18 | United Kingdom- “My journey with this band started early last year, just as Blurryface was released. They were different, a little confusing at first but I kept coming back for more. Then with every music video and every interview I found myself tumbling into the world of Twenty One Pilots. Suddenly I realized they were what I had been searching for my whole life. Sure, there’s been bands that have helped me during the bad days and I am thankful for that… but this? This was different.”
“While listening to “Holding Onto You” I found something beautiful that would stick with me forever. A year later and my depression and anxiety has been at new heights, especially with moving away to university. That didn’t stop me though. I had a taste of home, something familiar. A little band called Twenty One Pilots.”
“I got through my driving test, my final weeks at college, my move to a different city and all my university stress with these guys. In just a year I’ve seen them live and even got their logo tattooed onto me. It’s surreal how much they’ve helped me escape all the bad moments, and enjoy those rare good ones even more. I owe them everything. Who needs a relaxing holiday away when you can easily put some headphones on and escape into the world of Tyler and Josh?”
Jessica | 14 | United States - “I love Twenty One Pilots because recently I was going through an extremely hard time and I actually ended up in the hospital because of it. I was there for almost two weeks and I loved Twenty One Pilots before I was in the hospital. While I was in the hospital I met others just like me, and we all connected through our past and music. A lot of the music they liked consisted of Twenty One Pilots, and it really helped.
“Now that I'm out of the hospital I still listen to their music nonstop, especially on a hard day. It really helps me through it to know someone understands when I feel like no one else would. And I am extremely excited to be attending The Emotional Roadshow this summer to be able to see the two people how helped me in my journey and will continue helping me on the way to my destination.”
Gema | 19 | Spain - ”I found bands whose music I could relate to and songs that made me feel understood, but never before have I come across a band like Twenty One Pilots. A person or band never told me to stay alive, and that life is worth living. Their music literally hold my mind in a save space from myself and they always make me smile no matter how low I am. They have inspire me to write again after two years without picking a pen. They’re my biggest thank you.”
Natalie | 15 | United States - “I love Twenty One Pilots because they got me through so much. I feel like when Tyler sings, his lyrics are voicing what I have been afraid to say out loud. It’s like I finally have someone that knows how I feel, and thanks to this band, I am finally starting to break free of my struggles. I am regaining strength with their help and I can never thank them enough for it.”
Jeannie | 18 | Canada - “I love Twenty One Pilots because they’re unique. They have kind of a vibe, an ambiance that comes with every song. We don't see a lot of things like that these days in the music industry. Not only the lyrics to every song are brilliant, they helped a lot of fans to get through some tough times. They unite people together and this is beautiful.”
Alexis Medina | 17 | United States - “I love Twenty One Pilots because their music make me feel alive. I feel so many emotions when listening to them and I love this because I usually don't feel much at all. They're sheer perfection.”
Amy | 15 | New Zealand - “Before I listened to their music my life was in a bad place. I felt extremely alone and I didn't know how to cope with everything. I can remember a quite a long time ago some random person tagged me in the song “Car Radio” from Regional At Best, I listened to it and I cried. I kept that song extremely close to my heart because I felt so many emotions while I was listening, I understood every word and the things he was talking about made sense in my head.”
“This is one of the many reasons Regional At Best is my favourite album, because that’s where I felt a connection. After that I decided to find out more about them, I tried finding songs and I wanted to know more about them and soon I came across their self-titled album , Twenty One Pilots. I listened to the whole thing over and over and I felt a comfort in knowing that there was other people out there dealing with the same things as me.”
“I felt a strong connection to Tyler's voice and what he sang about and when you part that with the beats they have, because each song was very powerful and moving. I became part of their music and I never stopped listening. Whenever I had bad thoughts I would listen to them and feel so amazing. I would most definitely say, Twenty One Pilots saved my life. That is why I love them. I still have my problems but I can’t thank the band enough for all that they have done and how many other people’s lives they save. They are truly amazing people and I love them with every part of my body. Stay Alive, I promise you, it’s worth it.”
Jules | 19 | United States - “I love Twenty One Pilots not only as a band, but Tyler and Josh as individuals too. Because of those two dudes, and their decision to pursue music together, it has saved so many people. I know a lot of people talk about how a band saved them. But with us, the meaning is much deeper than the words alone.”
“Two years ago, I was walking off an edge I didn't know I had been standing on. And that's when Twenty One Pilots entered my life. I have used their powerful words to fight depression, anxiety, increasingly strong self-harm and suicidal thoughts on countless nights. Josh Dun and Tyler Joseph have become part of my life and they always will be. And you know what's good to know? I’m not the only one waging these wars behind my face and above my throat.”
Naïma | 14 | France - “When you're in a dark place, you feel like you're alone. You feel like the light is gone forever and there's nobody in here with you. And the longer you stay, the darker it gets. But at one moment, you may see a point of light under the door. A ray of sun between the curtains. And that light, it makes you hold on a little bit longer. It gives you hope."
"For me, that light is Twenty One Pilots. They are the light that makes me get up every morning, which takes me every day a little bit further from the dark place I was in before I discovered them. Because this is what Twenty One Pilots is about. Fighting. Fighting our demons. Fighting our nightmares. Twenty One Pilots talk to us. They understand, because they've been there, and I'm pretty sure they still are. But they are not giving up. And you can feel it in their lyrics. They are always so accurate. They make me feel understood, and so much less alone."
"Their relationship with us (The Skeleton Clique) is also a big part of this feeling. They have created something so powerful. They encourage us to help, to support. And just the fact of going into the crowd, letting the fans hold Tyler during “Holding On To You,” is, for me, a beautiful message. Because we hold on to them... but they hold on to us."
"I could go on for days. They helped so many of us to find a purpose. Did I find mine? I'm not sure. But I'm on my way and they are here for me. They tell us to create to think. To do something of our hands, our brains, our eyes. And that's how we will find our purpose. And I trust them."
"So today, even if we don't have the strength to stay alive for ourselves yet, we can stay alive for them. And this is something I will always thank them for. Our brains are sick but that's okay."
Remember, there's always someone who loves you, and if you need an extra person, don't forget that we love you. |-/

"It is one of the last songs we play in our set and by this song usually im exhausted during the live set. For some reason this song gives me a second wind, I don’t even know where it comes from. That’s special to me. Something bigger than myself happens during this song. It’s one of my favourites." - Tyler Joseph ("Trees")
