Back in February, The Used made a stop in Eindhoven to perform their first and second album in full as part of their anniversary tour. We saw them perform their second album 'In Love And Death' there! Along with this, we were lucky enough to have an online chat with the band about this tour among with other things. We had a chat with bassist Jeph.
Here it is:
You guys are currently celebrating your 15th anniversary with a very special tour. What is it like to play all those very old songs?
Jeph- Yes, it's been very exciting. Usually when we tour we try and play around 3 songs per record so it's been nice to get to play these entire records. It's also a lot of fun for our fans to see two completely different shows back to back.
Are there any songs you play on this tour you haven't played live before?
J-yes, I'd say about half we haven't played in 10 years and there is a couple from In love and death that we have never played live.
15 years as a band, that's quite something! What are the biggest lessons you've learned along the way?
J- How to live and let go.
On your latest album 'Imaginary Enemy' you guys wrote some angry political based songs. Why did you decide to write about politics on this album?
J- You'll have to ask Bert that question. So instead of answering it I will say a quote from "Osho" - life repeats itself mindlessly- unless you become mindful, it will go on repeating like a wheel."
(Next question is fan submitted)
Can you recall the moment where you felt like you had actually made it? How do you feel about that moment now that it's years later?
J-Of course, I would say it was one special show we played on warped back in 2003. I get the same feeling from some shows we play now when the vibe and crowd are in tune with us.
As you guys are veterans and survived for 15 years, is there any advice you'd like to give to young artists just starting their career in music?
J-Be yourself, don't emulate other bands or other musicians. Find a manager you can really trust and also don't trust record labels or anyone that says "the biz"
When can we expect new music from The Used?
J-We have been writing and the plan now is to start recording in the beginning of 2017.
Do you guys have any pre-show rituals?
J-We all warm up for about an hour, then we always hug as a group and chat for a minute and then we hug each other separately.
Any message for the lovely fans who are reading this?
J- Take care of this planet and all of the people on it. One world one love.
The Used released their live & acoustic album 'Live & Acoustic At The Palace' yesterday aswell!
This acoustic & live album contains songs from both the albums they performed on their anniversary tour.
