It had been 4 very long years since we’ve heard something new from Paramore…until yesterday, when we finally got a first taste of what they have been working on lately as well as an album title and a bunch of tour dates! The news spread like wildfire, so you are probably already aware that “Hard Times” is the first single off the band’s upcoming record “After Laughter” which will drop on May 12th via Fueled by Ramen. Along with the announcements the band shared that their new material will be slightly different from previous outputs, but as they have always slightly altered their sound from album to album, that was expected.
They also shone a light on the process of making the album, as it seems to have been quite the rocky one. According to lead singer Hayley Williams, at times it wasn’t even certain whether there would be an album coming together at all, as she explained in an interview with The New York Times: “You can run on the fumes of being a teenager for as long as you want, but eventually life hits you really hard. I didn’t even know if we were going to make another record. […] There was a moment when I didn’t even want it to happen. Then it was like, I want it to happen, but I don’t know how we’re going to do it.”
We are definitely very glad it did happen, especially with what we’ve gotten to hear so far! Coming along with an amazing music video combining several styles of art and animation, “Hard Times” follows an upbeat and playful melody to describe the not so bright side of life in a light-hearted manner, which makes it an awesome tune fitting for the summer.
