Today’s track is coming from a band that just doesn’t seem to disappear from our newsfeed for even
a day: Twenty One Pilots. We won’t complain though, as long as all we hear is good news!
Last year, the duo, who is currently busy touring the world, released their amazing album Blurryface
featuring a lot of good songs, whereas some of them get way more attention than others. The entire
album comes to a close in its last song called “Goner”.
In a way, that track doesn’t completely seem to fit in with the other songs on the album as it is not
only slower than the others, but also for the most part only accompanied by a piano which makes it
sound more pure and gentle. It also does give the song a very dark, sad atmosphere, but although
the lyrics are obviously a cry for help, there is also some light to be found in there.
At the beginning of the second verse, Tyler sings: “I’ve got two faces / Blurry’s the one I’m not”,
meaning he’s aware of Blurryface, the dark side of his mind and personality full of insecurity and self-
doubt, but he also knows that that’s not who he is and what defines him and that he can manage to
leave that dark side behind.
The entire song is driven by a lot of emotion which increases towards the end and especially shines
through musically and lyrically in the slow, simple beginning of the piano and the clean, low vocals
when in the second half, other instruments are added, the song gets faster and the singing becomes
In other words, it’s a complex emotional rollercoaster, but we love it!
Therefore feel free to check out “Goner” below!
