Tyler Joseph - Blasphemy (Track Of The Day, December 1st)

It's Tyler Joseph's birthday today and we wanted to celebrate by focusing on one of his songs as our Track Of The Day.

We love "Anathema" on the Twenty One Pilots album, Regional At Best. A favourite lyric of "Anathema" is:

"I start to part two halves of my heart in the dark and I don't know where I should go when the tears and fears will begin to multiply."

This lyric actually has its roots in Tyler Joseph's basement-produced album, No Phun Intended, in the song Blasphemy, that he created four years before Regional At Best. Blasphemy is our track of the day.

Blasphemy is a piano focused track with soft drums and effects for most of the song, beginning with that amazing lyric above. The song seems to express Tyler's angst about connecting with God ("CAN I SEE YOUR EYES?"), and also noticing a disconnect that others have around him.

There's moments which feel Eminem inspired, with his ('not rapping') stream of lyrics letting him voice questions and confessions.

Quieter vocals building up into the powerful screams of "CAN I UNDERSTAND YOU?" hit hard in the feels, and Tyler's voice is captivating and we are easily swept along with him throughout the song, laden with goosebumps.

The track closes more peacefully, describing the closing of the day, with another lyric that feels like home: "Tomorrow's sure to come."

Enjoy.
